Pardee sponsors charity race

For the eighth consecutive year, Pardee Homes is the title sponsor of the city of North Las Vegas Parks and Recreation Department's annual Northern Exposure 10-K Race and 2-Mile Family Run/Walk to be held Nov. 3, beginning at 8 a.m. Pardee Homes has been the title sponsor of the event since its inception in 2000.

This year's race moves to the first Saturday in November after taking place in October since its inception, with an overall goal of increasing participation, according to event organizers.

"The Northern Exposure 10-K has become a favorite event among local and regional runners with a course that offers challenging topography and stunning views of the northern mountains," said North Las Vegas Parks and Recreation director Mike Henley. "We hope that by moving the event to early November, we'll be able to 'expose' more runners and walkers to this exciting North Las Vegas area as well as to the opportunity for serious runners to win cash prizes."

The Northern Exposure 10-K Race and 2-Mile Family Run/Walk will begin and end at Seastrand Park, located at 6330 Camino Eldorado and Centennial Parkway in North Las Vegas. The 25-acre park, developed by Pardee and dedicated to the city of North Las Vegas, is named for the late North Las Vegas Mayor James Seastrand and is located in the builder's planned Eldorado community along the valley's northern rim.

Event registration begins at 6:30 a.m., with the 2-mile family run/walk beginning at 8 a.m. and the 10-K race beginning at 8:30 a.m.

More than $3,000 in cash and prizes will be distributed to the top three overall winners (male and female), top two in the masters divisions (male and female), and top three in each age division (male and female).

The 2-mile family run/walk is a separate course and is ideal for families, including those participants with strollers.

Proceeds from the race will go to benefit Positively Kids, a charity that helps medically fragile children.

Registration for the 10-K is $20 for adults and $15 for children 12 and younger. Price goes up to $30 for adults on the day of the event and includes an official race T-shirt. Registration for the 2-mile family run/walk is $15 for adults and $10 for children 12 and younger. Entry forms can be picked up at the North Las Vegas Neighborhood Recreation Center, 1638 N. Bruce St. or Silver Mesa Recreation Center, 4025 Allen Lane. For additional information, call 633-2650 or register at active.com.

Additional sponsors include Land Rover of Las Vegas, Grace Point Church and Southwest Airlines.

"North Las Vegas and Pardee Homes have had a great relationship for many decades," said Klif Andrews, Southern Nevada Division president, Pardee Homes. "In fact, we currently have a number of active new-home communities in North Las Vegas. We're proud to be a part of North Las Vegas' Northern Exposure event, which is a great opportunity for participants to experience the lifestyle of the Eldorado community and for serious runners and those just out for a Saturday morning stroll with their children to experience one of the most scenic areas of the valley."

The Eldorado community includes an elementary school named in honor of the late Pardee executive Lee Antonello, both the Seastrand and Eldorado parks, a fire station and nearby shopping centers. Current Pardee Homes' neighborhoods in North Las Vegas include San Rafael; Springdale and Autumn Ridge in Aliante; Rockwood in the builder's Prescott Park community; Northpointe located between Eldorado and Aliante; and Cordova and Laguna in the builder's Vista Cielo planned community. Sales office hours are 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. daily, except Monday when it opens at 11 a.m. For more information, visit pardeehomes.com.
