Pardee’s playhouse fulfills dream

The Cottontail Cottage playhouse built by Pardee Homes as a benefit for the 2010 Project Playhouse has been relocated to the home of McKenna Yeomans.

"I'm going to have popcorn and watch movies in my new playhouse," Yeomans, 3½, said as the playhouse was hoisted by crane and positioned in her backyard. It was her mother, Julie Yeomans, who purchased two tickets for a chance to win the Cottontail Cottage during an outing to Town Square.

"I had purchased tickets for a chance to win a playhouse during the previous Project Playhouse and I was familiar with the program and excited for a chance to win this adorable playhouse, which I knew would be perfect for McKenna," Julie Yeomans said.

The same week the playhouse was delivered, the Yeoman family welcomed a baby boy.

"Pardee Homes is grateful to be able to continue to support HomeAid and Project Playhouse, which raised approximately $22,000 from the 2010 event," said Dennis Shavor, construction superintendent at Pardee Homes. "And, it is rewarding for us to experience the end result of our hard work and the generous support of many other companies that pitched in on the project."

Project Playhouse is the primary fundraiser for HomeAid Southern Nevada, which is dedicated to partnering service providers with the building industry. Project Playhouse 2010 featured playhouses built and donated by Pardee Homes and The Whiting-Turner Contracting Co. The overall mission of HomeAid is to build and maintain dignified housing to allow homeless families and individuals the opportunity to rebuild their lives. It has also organized industry support for the Women's Development Center, a nonprofit committed to providing support services to families to attain long-term self sufficiency and combat the cycle of poverty.

"We're in the planning stages for Project Playhouse 2011 and we have two commitments from local builders already," said Kathleen Dye, executive director of HomeAid Southern Nevada. "We are seeking two more builder partners to join in this very worthwhile and rewarding project."

Pardee Homes is longtime supporter of HomeAid and the Project Playhouse program. The Cottontail Cottage was built by volunteers from Pardee Homes, Sunrise Carpentry and other HomeAid supporters, including: Del Grosso Floor Covering, Inc.; Pima Door and Supply; Jeld-Wen Door; MS Framing, LLC; Sunstate Components and Lumber; H&E Equipment; Mohawk; Cal/Pac Painting of Nevada; Sherwin-Williams; Frazee Paint; Hutchins Drywall, Inc.; Texture Source; IES Residential; Statewide Lighting Center, Inc.; Silver State Fireplaces; Sierra Air Conditioning, Inc.; Red Rock Insulation; Sunstate Companies, Inc.; CEMEX; Star Nursery; Beauty with Pavers, LLC; Alexander's Masonry, Inc.; Avanti Stone; Eaton Masonry, LLC; Eldorado Stone; Robinson Brick; SelectBuild Nevada, Inc.; Omega Products International; Cooper Roofing; ATI Windows; Citrine Interiors and Bassenian Lagoni Architecture.

In addition to the local Project Playhouse, Pardee Homes has built many other playhouses over the years on behalf of HomeAid, including special houses that have earned appearances on national television and have been exhibited at the National Building Museum in Washington D.C.

All Pardee Homes' sales offices and model homes are open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday and from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Monday.
