Pawfest brings ‘warm fuzzies’ to Rhodes Ranch
April 28, 2007 - 9:00 pm
The second annual Pawfest at Rhodes Ranch drew crowds of residents to participate in pet-friendly activities and meet KVBC News 3 Weatherman John Fredericks and his dog Jordan. Las Vegas Metro's K-9 unit took part.
"John and Jordan were a huge hit among all of the residents - young and old -- at this year's Pawfest event," said Virginia Kaplan, program manager at The R-Club. "Two of Metro's K-9 dogs were also on hand to provide demonstrations and to answer questions on the elite unit that serves our valley."
According to Kaplan, the Women's Club sponsored the food for the event and also handled the tickets for the door prizes.
The local Boy Scout troop sold baked goods as a fundraiser for the group.
"Residents were also asked to donate items to the Nevada SPCA to help with the many animals they care for at the shelter. Volunteers from the Nevada SPCA were also here with several animals for adoption," Kaplan said.
Vendors for this year's event ranged from banking to pet supplies, to the Southern Nevada Health District, which provided information on pet awareness, according to Kaplan.
The event featured a contest and parade for the animals and residents of Rhodes Ranch.
"This part of the event is always fun. We judge the participants based on the category they entered into. Some of the categories were Best Vegas Outfit, Best Dog/Owner Look-Alike, and Silliest Outfit," Kaplan said.
Rhodes Homes opened the 35,000-square-foot R-Club in October 2005.
