Planet Hyundai Centennial touts new turbo Veloster
Hyundai Motor Corp., which gained notice when it was introduced the sport compact Veloster in 2012, has bolted out of the chute for 2013 with a turbo edition.
A three-door hatchback, the latest version of the Veloster appeals to an array of buyers, according to local sales consultants.
"It appeals to a wide variety of buyers, for sure," said David Shakely, who has been in the car business for a year after working as a carpenter for 35 years. "The buyer profile includes everything from a home health care nurse to a policeman and even seniors wanting to relive their younger years."
The biggest change in the 2013 Veloster is the addition of the 1.6-liter turbo, which generates 201 horsepower.
"What's so amazing to me is that the turbo gets only about a mile less per gallon while offering 63 more horsepower," Shakely said. "Hyundai is a fascinating company to work for, especially when you see the continual changes and upgrades that include styling and horsepower. When Hyundai added the turbo to the Veloster, the vehicle became popular to yet another segment of American automobile enthusiasts."
Shakely, 55, sold five Velosters to one couple in 2012. He immediately contacted the clients telling them about the introduction of the turbo.
"I couldn't wait to tell my customers about the new Veloster. It has definitely brought a whole new level of excitement to the car business," he said.
The turbo is the key.
"The turbo will definitely throw you back against the seat. It's now a true performance vehicle, especially when you add the six-speed manual transmission."
Shakely said the combination of the six-speed manual transmission with the handling package makes the Veloster the perfect car while getting about 40 mpg on the highway.
"The technology package in the Veloster is state-of-the-art. The sound system is top-notch and everyone raves about it. You can start the car from inside the house with your smartphone application," he said. "When you add in the fact that the car comes equipped with Blue Link, which provides navigation, maintenance updates and emergency roadside capability, there isn't much more that a person could want."
