Poor Judging the Judges rating as a badge of honor?
While appearing before Veterans in Politics for an endorsement interview in his bid for re-election Las Vegas Municipal Court Judge George Assad took the opportunity to assail the Review-Journal’s biennial survey of attorneys to evaluate sitting judges. Assad mistakenly called it a survey of “criminal defense attorneys” and assigned some ulterior motive to the Review-Journal as being supportive of lax enforcement of criminal laws.
As we’ve done for years, in 2010 the Review-Journal asked Clark County attorneys of all walks — criminal defense, prosecution, civil, etc. — to rate judges in front of whom they appear. For Assad, 113 attorneys gave him the worst ratings of any judge in Clark County with 69 percent saying he should not be retained in office.
Anonymous comments included: "The judge is known universally as 'Crazy Assad' for good reasons," and, "A disgrace to the bench. This mediocre lawyer should never have been allowed to become a terrible judge."
