SENIOR GAMES SEEKS SPONSORS

The Nevada Senior Games, a nonprofit organization dedicated to movitating seniors to lead a healthy lifestyle, is looking for sponsors for the 2013 Senior Games and weekly Walk-About-America program.

Athletes 50 or older from around the country participate in the Senior Games, which take place over three weeks in September and October. The event features 16 sports.

Bereavement group plans to meet at temple beth sholom

A bereavement group plans to meet at 10:30 a.m. every other Wednesday in the social hall of Temple Beth Sholom, 10700 Havenwood Lane. The next meeting is set for June 5.

The meetings are usually scheduled on alternating Wednesdays, but dates can change due to holidays. The purpose is to help widows and widowers understand the process of grieving and prepare for lifestyle changes. The meetings are open to anyone of any faith.

Humana Guidance Centers are offering free walking groups led by a certified personal trainer. Participants will receive a free pedometer and at the end of each outing can upload their steps at a Guidance Center computer kiosk or at home to tracks steps taken, distance and calories burned.

SCHEDULES BOOK EVENT

The Sun City MacDonald Ranch Literary Guild plans to welcome Henderson best-selling romance author Robyn Carr, who is scheduled to meet with the group at 2 p.m. June 9 at the Desert Willow Community Center, 2020 W. Horizon Ridge Parkway. The event is free and open to the public, and the on-site Willows restaurant is slated to offer a 20 percent discount to attendees on the day of the event. The guild plans to take the summer off and return with more book events in September.

of biography set in Saudi Arabia

Victoria Kilbury met Nabila working out at a Las Vegas gym. The two exchanged stories and talked about Nabila’s life in Saudi Arabia, a society where women had no rights. They could not attend school, pursue careers unless sanctioned by the government, drive cars or choose their husbands. Wishing to remain anonymous, Nabila asked Kilbury to help her write her life story. Nabila and Kilbury are slated to speak about the resulting book “Disenchanted: One Woman’s Journey for Independence from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia” from 7 to 9 p.m. June 11 at the Clark County Library, 1401 E. Flamingo Road.
