Republican Governors Association PAC returns, still doesn’t like Rory

The Republican Governors Association is back from summer hiatus with a new mailer critizing Democrat Rory Reid.

The glossy mailer is big on ominous imagery and scary words but short on content, mostly seeking to raise fears about Reid as a juiced-in big spender.

It blames Reid, chairman of the Clark County Commission, for the unemployment rate of more than 14 percent, says spending increased under Reid's watch and accused Reid of having conflicts of interest with his role on the commission.

The mailer is aimed at hurting Reid in his run for governor against Republican Brian Sandoval. It was paid for by RGA Nevada PAC and directs readers to an RGA-sponsored website called www.ReidtheFacts.com, which details more negative claims against Reid.

The RGA launched the site in July (read R-J blog on RGA-sponsored website), about a month after the Democratic and Republican primaries established Reid and Sandoval as the major-party nominees.

The group has been relatively quiet in Nevada since the website launch, until the new mailer. The return of the RGA comes as Reid, who has trailed Sandoval consistently in statewide polls, seeks to gain ground in the final weeks of the campaign.

The most recent finance report from the Nevada Secretary of State shows $65,000 in contributions to RGA Nevada PAC from Jan. 1 through May 27 from Maximus, a Virginia-based government software consulting firm, Wellcare of Florida, a managed care company for government health care programs, SSAB Iowa, Inc., a steel company and Metomic, an Illinois-based brass and aluminum parts manufacturer.

The next finance report isn't due until Oct. 26.
