Robber took wallet, returned $5 before running away
EASTON, Pa. — A man robbed outside an eastern Pennsylvania convenience store says the semi-penitent thief gave him back $5 before running away.
Ethan Voice tells The (Easton) Express-Times that the suspect, 38-year-old Timothy T. Smith, of Arlington, Virginia, handed him the $5 bill after demanding Voice’s wallet after he finished pumping gas in Palmer Township.
Township police say the robbery happened Friday night. They arrested Smith on Saturday, but not before police say he used Voice’s credit cards to charge items worth $322 at two other stores.
Police found Smith by tracking the credit card purchases and using surveillance video from the stores where they were used.
Smith remained in the Northampton County Jail on Tuesday. He faces a preliminary hearing Sept. 17 on charges including robbery, theft, and credit card fraud.
