Science proves Las Vegas is a loud city

We all know that Las Vegas is a loud city. But now there’s science to prove it.

A new map unveiled at the American Association for the Advancement of Science Annual Meeting lays out the sound levels of the different parts of the country.

The map itself is quite a sight to see, using the brightness of lights to indicate the loudness of the area in decibels. You can see the lights dominating the eastern half of the country and the West Coast.

Produced by researchers from the Natural Sounds and Night Skies Division of the National Park Service, the map is based off of 1.5 million hours of acoustical monitoring.

What’s the coolest part? Well, our humble little city, of course!

Between the halfway mark of the country and the West Coast, there is nothing but the darkest shades of blue, showing the quietest parts of the country.

Except for one little, resilient, bright spot: Las Vegas.

Now that’s something to be proud of.
