Something smells

In Washington today, a bad sewer-like smell forced Senate Democrats out of the room where they usually hold their Tuesday caucus luncheon in the Capitol.

They met in the Capitol Visitor Center instead. Afterwards Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid apologized to reporters for being late to his usual press availability.

"As you know, our room smelled today, so we had to leave," he said. "Wish it weren't true."

Reporters asked Reid if he knew what caused the stink, wondering if he would take the bait. Reid, after all, is famous for stating on several occasions that on hot summer days senators can smell the sweaty tourists coming into the building.

Reid did not bite, but he did smile.

"I have some ideas, but I'm not going to talk about it," he said.
