OPPORTUNITY VILLAGE SEEKS VOLUNTEERS

Opportunity Village is seeking volunteers to staff the Magical Forest, 6300 W. Oakey Blvd., through Jan. 6. Volunteers must be at least 18. Forest hours are 5:30 to 9 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 5:30 to 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday.

BANK OF AMERICA PLANS TOY DRIVE

Bank of America plans a toy drive for the Make-A-Wish Foundation through Dec. 13. Participants can drop off new and unwrapped at any Bank of America branch in Southern Nevada. The toys will be presented to children and their families at the foundation’s holiday celebration.

NEVADA STATE BANK TO HOST TOY AND BIKE DRIVE

Nevada State Bank is set to host a toy and bike drive through Dec. 4. Items can be dropped off at any Nevada State Bank branch in the valley.

DOG RESCUE LAUNCHES PET SUPPLY DRIVE

The Las Vegas Hot-Diggity Dachshund Club and Rescue plans a pet supply drive through Dec. 13. Donors can drop off toys, treats, leashes, blankets, beds and other supplies to any Carl’s Jr. location; Aloha Animal Hospital, 7341 S. Torrey Pines Drive; or Veterinary Emergency + Critical Care, 8650 W. Tropicana Ave., Suite B-104. The items are set to be donated to pet organizations and rescues.

SANTA CLAUS TO APPEAR UNDERWATER AT THE SILVERTON

Santa Claus is scheduled to pose underwater from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Dec. 7-8, 14-15 and 21-22 at the Silverton aquarium, 3333 Blue Diamond Road. Santa and his elves are set to interact with guests and provide photo opportunities.

TOWN ADVISORY BOARD MEETING SET FOR DEC. 10

The Spring Valley Town Advisory Board is scheduled to meet at 6:30 p.m. Dec. 10 at the Desert Breeze Community Center, 8275 Spring Mountain Road. The board usually meets the second and fourth Tuesdays of each month.

DRUM CLASSES OFFERED AT MUSIC HEALTH CENTER

OPPORTUNITY VILLAGE TO HOST ANNUAL SANTA RUN DEC. 7

Opportunity Village is set to host the ninth annual Las Vegas Great Santa Run at 8 a.m. Dec. 7. The race is scheduled to start at the Fremont Street Experience and include live entertainment, food, costume contests and celebrity appearances.

Participants will be competing across the world for the title of World Santa Challenge Champion. The friendly challenge competes with other Santa runs to see which race can accrue the most participants. During its nine years of existence, Las Vegas has won the title eight times.

Participants can register individually for $40 or as a team for $35 per runner. Children can register for $25. A Santa costume is included.

GUITAR LESSONS SET THROUGH THE FALL AT SPRING VALLEY LIBRARY

NONPROFIT ORGANIZATION SEEKS PET FOSTER FAMILIES

Foreclosed Upon Pets, a nonprofit organization that rescues animals that have been abused or abandoned as a result of economic hardship, is searching for foster families for dogs and cats. Volunteers must provide the pet with a safe and secure environment with basic training. Families must also transport the animal to weekly adoptions and events and provide the organization with regular updates.

The Las Vegas Single Social Travel Club for Mature Adults invites prospective members to its meetings, which are scheduled for 7 p.m. the fourth Tuesday of the month at the Tap House, 5589 W. Charleston Blvd.

The meet-and-greet portion is set to start at 6:30 p.m. in the meeting room. Discussions focus on day trips, local events, in-state and out-of-state traveling, cruises and international traveling. Solari Hospice Care, 5550 S. Jones Blvd., is looking for volunteers to aid with day-to-day operations and patient well-being.

Volunteers bring companionship to people in the final months and weeks of life, often when people find themselves cut off from the community, isolated and alone. They bring respite to family caregivers who are caring for dying loved ones. Sometimes volunteers share a special knowledge or hobby, such as speaking a second language or playing music. Solari also uses volunteers to answer phones, assist with receptionist duties or perform light secretarial work.
