1. DiamondFest 2016: The event is set to celebrate Neil Diamond with music and film April 21-24 at the Suncoast, 9090 Alta Drive. Nearly 12 tribute artists are set to be showcased at the festival in four unique concerts. A portion of the proceeds will benefit nonprofit Our Military Kids. 3. Greenfest 2016: The free event is planned from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. April 23 on the lawn at Downtown Summerlin, 1980 Festival Plaza Drive. Expect green vendors, live entertainment, arts and crafts, a petting zoo, pet adoptions, a beer and wine garden, a market place, recycling exhibits and interactive displays. “Vintage Urban Collection”: Artist Alexander Huerta’s exhibit will be on display during regular library hours April 21 through June 19 at the Summerlin Library, 1771 Inner Circle Drive. The exhibit features scratchboard and collage techniques on wood in a largely monochromatic series featuring clippings from vintage publications. Visit lvccld.org.
Third Thursdays: The monthly event is planned from 5:30 to 8 p.m. the third Thursday of each month at Village Square, 9400 W. Sahara Ave., to provide the community with fun activities and promotions at the shops and restaurants in the center. A car show and arts and crafts vendors are planned, along with raffle prizes, a balloon artist and music. The April 21 event also is set to host blood donations for United Blood Services. Little Books and Little Cooks: The free workshop series is set from 2 to 3 p.m. April 21 at the Summerlin Library, 1771 Inner Circle Drive, for children ages 3 to 5. University of Nevada Cooperative Extension staff members will offer a seven-week parenting education workshop designed to teach healthy eating and nutrition to preschool children and their parents while developing positive parent-child interaction through reading and cooking together. Heart of Hope Luncheon: Catholic Charities of Southern Nevada plans to mark it’s 75th anniversary at the sixth annual Heart of Hope Luncheon, set from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. April 22 in the Summerlin Ballroom at Red Rock Resort, 11011 W. Charleston Blvd. This year’s recipients of the Heart of Hope Award will be Dignity Health-St. Rose Dominican and Ed Skonicki. The program is set to include a luncheon, award presentation and “raise the paddle” initiative hosted by radio personality Chet Buchanan. Heritage Festival & Parade: The free city of Henderson event is slated for April 23 in the Water Street District, kicking off with a Mayor & Council Breakfast at 9 a.m., followed by a parade at 10 a.m. along Water Street from Ocean Avenue to Victory Road. Festival activities are planned from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., and live entertainment is scheduled to start at noon at the Henderson Events Plaza, 200 S. Water St. Food vendors also are planned. The event aims to celebrate the city’s history and its incorporation, which took place April 16, 1953. Parade entries are scheduled to be judged on creativity, overall appeal and the incorporation of the event’s theme, My Henderson. Kickball tournament: The inaugural Kick-It Las Vegas event to benefit Speedway Children’s Charities is set from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. April 23 at UNLV’s intramural fields on the corner of Harmon Avenue and Swenson Street. Red Rock marathon: Triple Dare Running Co. plans its spring race, Flight of Fire Trail Half Marathon & 10K, for May 14 at Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area, 1000 Scenic Loop Drive. Starting at the Visitor Center, the course will travel clockwise to the Moenkopi Loop, the Grand Circle Loop, and the White Rock-Willow Springs Trail, then to the White Rock dirt road, back to the Grand Circle Loop, on to the Calico Hills Trail, and finally back to the Moenkopi Loop, finishing back at the center. This course is a technical trail race, and trail shoes with gaiters are recommended. The 10K follows the same course, ending at the White Rock aid station.
