VIEW NIGHT SKY DURING STAR PARTY EVENT AT CORN CREEK STATION
A program titled "Desert Under the Stars" is planned for 7:30 p.m. Saturday at the Corn Creek Station on U.S. Highway 95, north of Las Vegas.
The evening is set to begin with telescope viewing of the moon just after sunset, followed by deep-sky viewing of galaxies, nebulae and star clusters as the sky darkens. A laser-guided "What's Up Tonight" tour of the night sky is scheduled for 8:30 p.m.
The event is free. The public is invited to park at the information kiosk and take a short, easy walk to the observing site. Parking and access to video-assisted viewing of the night sky is available for those in wheelchairs at the observing site.

JEWISH SINGLES CLUB TO MEET SEPT. 7
The Jewish Singles 55 plus Social Club meets on the first Wednesday of each month at the NV Energy building, 6226 W. Sahara Ave. (go through the back entrance).
The club welcomes anyone interested in entertaining programs, socializing and meeting new friends. The next meeting is planned for 6:30 p.m. Sept. 7. Expect ice cream, socializing and playing games.

WESTSIDE NEWCOMERS CLUB TO HOST COFFEE FOR PROSPECTIVE MEMBERS
The Westside Newcomers Club, a social club for women who have lived in the area for 10 years or less or who have had life-changing events such as retirement, plans to host a coffee event for prospective members in the social hall at Desert Spring United Methodist Church, 120 N. Pavilion Center Drive, at 9:30 a.m. Sept. 7.
The coffees are scheduled for the first Wednesday of every month. A luncheon with a program is planned for the second Wednesday of each month.

KIDS IN THE KITCHEN RECEIVES DONATION
The annual American Academy of Nurse Practitioners 5K Fun Walk/Run was held June 25 in Las Vegas and raised $5,000 for the Junior League of Las Vegas' program Kids in the Kitchen, an educational project to promote healthy eating and to address childhood obesity.
Last year, JLLV's 400-plus members devoted more than 12,165 hours of volunteer time and provided more than $100,000 to the Las Vegas community.

VOTE IN AMERICA'S FAVORITE PARK CONTEST
County officials are encouraging residents to vote for their favorite Clark County park in "America's Favorite Park" contest.
The park that wins the most votes will receive a $100,000 grant to buy new equipment, restore activity areas and do other recreational projects. Grants of $50,000 and $25,000 are awarded to second- and third-place vote-getters.
The contest ends Sept. 6.

LARGE VISION BUSINESS NETWORK MIXER PLANS EVENT TODAY AT SUNCOAST
The Large Vision Business Network Mixer plans to host its next event from 6 to 9 p.m. today at the Suncoast, 9090 Alta Drive.
The LVBNM Mega Mixer Consumer Expo will include more than 50 area businesses showcasing their products and services. The Chefs Corner will serve up bites of international flavors. A live competition cupcake battle also is planned.

POOCHES HEAD TO THE POOL FOR DOG DAZE
Clark County Parks and Recreation has scheduled the Seventh Annual Dog Daze of Summer event for 9 a.m. Sept. 10 at the Desert Breeze Water Park, 8275 W. Spring Mountain Road.
Dog owners will watch as their canine companions take a relaxing dip in the pool during two sessions: 9 to 10:15 a.m. for dogs 50 pounds or lighter and 10:45 a.m. to noon for dogs heavier than 50 pounds.
Humans are not allowed in the water with their animals.
Prizes will be given for the shortest and tallest dogs and for funny pet tricks.
Owners must have their dog's current rabies tag or other proof of updated vaccinations before they are allowed in the pool. The pool will be power-washed with a Southern Nevada Health District-approved solution immediately following the event.
Donations will be accepted for new or gently used clean dog items for local shelters. Admission is $5 per dog. Humans are free.
