FRY'S COMING TO BOCA PARK

Fry's Electronics Inc., headquartered in San Jose, Calif., has announced plans to open a store in Boca Park. The company has purchased the space vacated by The Great Indoors, which closed in December 2008.

A company spokesperson for Fry's could not disclose details but said the building would need to be refurbished, and the store is expected to open in 2012.

Boca Park occupies 55 acres at Charleston and Rampart boulevards. The Fry's site is just south of Tivoli Village. Fry's first store in Las Vegas is at 6845 Las Vegas Blvd. South near Town Square Las Vegas. It opened in 2002.

VISIT RED ROCK CANYON SATURDAY FOR STAR PARTY

An Astronomy in the Park Star Party is planned for 6 p.m. Saturday at the Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area Visitor Center, 1000 Scenic Loop Drive.

The Las Vegas Astronomical Society plans a presentation titled "Jupiter-King of the Planets," followed by telescope viewing of the moon just after sunset and deep-sky viewing of galaxies, nebulae and star clusters as the sky darkens. A laser-guided tour of the sky is set for 8 p.m.

ADA parking and access to video-assisted viewing of the night sky is available for those in wheelchairs or those who may have difficulty observing through a telescope eyepiece.

Las Vegas Track Club to host 5K, 1-MILE WALK for Little People of America

The Las Vegas Track Club plans to host a 5K and 1-mile walk to benefit Little People of America at 9 a.m. Saturday at W. Wayne Bunker Family Park, 7351 W. Alexander Road.

GOLDEN RETRIEVER RESCUE PLANS BARBECUE

The Golden Retriever Rescue of Southern Nevada plans to host its Reunion BBQ and Fundraiser  at 6 p.m. Saturday at Doggie District Pet Resort, 3223 N. Rainbow Blvd.

The cost is $10 per dog, and dog owners eat free. Those attending without dogs pay $10. Bring folding chairs.

Proceeds will assist the group with adoption costs.

JUNIOR ACHIEVEMENT PLANS bowling FUNDRAISER

Junior Achievement of Southern Nevada plans to host its annual Boo-A-Thon fundraiser Oct. 22 and 23 at the Suncoast Bowling Center, 9090 Alta Drive. Saturday shifts are from noon to 2 p.m. and 3 to 5 p.m., and Sunday shifts are from 9 to 11 a.m. and noon to 2 p.m.

Bowlers put together a five-person team and raise at least $100 per person. Participants must be 18 or older to fundraise. Team sign-up is due by Sunday.

VENDORS SOUGHT FOR CRAFT AND YARD SALE

Vendors are needed for a community-wide craft and yard sale planned from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 8 at the Westminster Presbyterian Church, 4601 W. Lake Mead Blvd. Vendors need not be affiliated with the church and may sell any legal product except food.

A donation of $5 will be requested if the vendor provides his own table and $10 if the church provides it.

RED ROCK 5K SET FOR Oct. 8

The Red Rock 5K is planned for 8 a.m. Oct. 8 at the Red Rock Country Club, 2250 Red Springs Drive. The walk for charity portion is scheduled to begin at 8:45 a.m.

New-Com and Ryno Running have teamed up with the golf club for a safe, scenic course using the golf course's concrete cart path. Entry fee for the walk is $25 and benefits After-School All-Stars Las Vegas. The 5K entry fee is $30. Cash prizes will be awarded.

Grace in the Desert Church to host rummage sale

The ECW of Grace in the Desert Episcopal Church announces a fall rummage sale scheduled from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 7 and 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. Oct. 8 at the church, 2004 Spring Gate Lane.

Expect housewares, sporting equipment, toys and gently used clothing. Donations are planned for St. Jude's Ranch for Children, the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, Soles4Souls and the Treasure House at Christ Church.

COMPUTER TROUBLESHOOTERS OPENS ON SAHARA AVENUE

Computer Troubleshooters Las Vegas, one of more than 500 in the world, has opened a retail location at 7795 W. Sahara Ave., Suite 103, in the Sahara-Buffalo Business Park.

It provides Las Vegas small businesses and individuals with their IT needs such as backup service, data recovery, setup and virus/spyware removal.

Jeff Berg, president of Computer Troubleshooters Las Vegas, said the new space will allow it to host small seminars for groups looking to find out about the latest computer hardware and software systems for their growing businesses.

ARMY MASTER FITNESS TRAINER TO LEAD WORKSHOPS

U.S. Army Master Fitness Trainer Staff Sgt. Ken Weichert, creator of the nation's longest-running boot camp fitness program, START Fitness, plans to lead workshops during the Elevate Fitness Conference, scheduled to begin at 5 p.m. Friday and run through Sunday at Summerlin Life Time Athletic, 10721 W. Learn workouts used to increase combat readiness while preventing stress or injury.

SMILES FOR SURVIVORS FOUNDATION TO HOLD FUNDRAISING EVENT

Smiles for Survivors Foundation plans to host its inaugural Blow Out Breast Cancer fundraising event from 6 to 10 p.m. Oct. 20 at Square Colour Salon + Spa, 1225 S. Fort Apache Road, Suite 160. The event is open to women and men and includes salon treatments, food, champagne, live music and a silent auction.

Smiles for Survivors is a nonprofit organization dedicated to raising awareness of cancer treatment's impact on oral health, providing necessary dental care for breast cancer patients and survivors and offering breast cancer education. Tickets for the event vary based on salon services. All proceeds go to Smiles for Survivors Foundation. All services will be performed by Square's highly trained team of stylists and beauty technicians.

Packages are available, and ticket prices are: general admission, $20 for event admission only, no spa services included; Pretty in Pink, $30, includes admission and a customized blowout; Rocking Rose, $45, includes admission, a customized blow out and a polish change; and Fabulous Fuchsia, $70, includes admission, a customized blowout, brow shaping, polish change and a lash application. It is $20 for each additional service. Appointments are strongly recommended for the event. Space is limited and is available on a first-come, first-served basis.
