CRAFTERS PLAN SHOW JUNE 20-21 AT SAHARA WEST LIBRARY

The Las Vegas Crafters Guild plans to host its eighth annual Summer Boutique and Craft Show from 10 a.m. to 5:45 p.m. June 20 and 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. June 21 at the Sahara West Library, 9600 W. Sahara Ave.

The craft show is free and open to the public. About 20 juried artisans are set to participate, featuring handcrafted items such as candles, fused glass dishes, handmade cards, purses, totes, children’s toys, jewelry and crochet hats for sale.

TRAIL BIKE MAINTENANCE CLASS SET FOR JUNE 21 AT REI

A Hands-On Bike Maintenance-Trail/Roadside Repair class is planned for 10:30 a.m. June 21 at REI Boca Park, 710 S. Rampart Blvd. The class will focus on what to do when the unexpected happens. Instructors will share tips to help cyclists triage the situation in the field to keep riding.

The cost is $45 for members and $65 for nonmembers.

COMMODORE COMPUTER CLUB TO MEET JUNE 21

The Clark County Commodore Computer Club plans to meet from 9 to 11 a.m. June 21 at Total Wine & More, 730 S. Rampart in Boca Park.

The club is for enthusiasts of the Commodore line of computers. Users of all computer platforms and tablets welcome. Planned demonstrations include the Leapmotion motion controller for PC or Mac.

TRAVEL CLUB TO MEET JUNE 24 AT THE TAP HOUSE

The Las Vegas Singles Travel and Social Club for mature singles plans to meet at 7 p.m. June 24 at the Tap House, 5589 W. Charleston Blvd. The club meets the fourth Tuesday of every month. A half hour of social time is planned prior to the meeting, which consists of a short business portion, introduction of guests and that month’s speaker. The June speaker will discuss cruising to Hawaii and back.

SUMMERLIN LECTURE SERIES TO FEATURE NORM CLARKE JUNE 25

As part of its 2014 Summerlin Lecture and Event Series, Las Ventanas plans to welcome Las Vegas Review-Journal columnist and celebrity insider Norm Clarke as its June 25 featured speaker. The event, Las Vegas Now & Then, is scheduled from 1 to 3 p.m. at Las Ventanas, 10401 W. Charleston Blvd.

Clarke plans to talk about the moments that changed Las Vegas history as well as stories from his most famous celebrity encounters.

The lecture is free and open to the public. The first 30 people to RSVP will receive a free, autographed copy of Clarke’s book “Sinsational Celebrity Tales.”

PUBLIC INPUT SOUGHT ON RED ROCK CANYON IMPROVEMENTS

The Bureau of Land Management Red Rock/Sloan Field Office plans to host public meetings on two infrastructure projects at 2 and 6 p.m. June 26 at the Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area’s Visitor Center classroom, 1000 Scenic Loop Drive.

Proposed projects on the 13-mile Scenic Loop Drive include constructing low-profile bridge crossings at both Sandstone and Red Rock wash crossings and flood warning sensors at three additional wash crossings. Proposed projects at the visitor center parking lot include making minor changes to the existing layout, repairing or replacing the pavement, reconstructing the bus loading area, resigning and striping.

When participants enter via the fee booth at the entrance for the meetings, they should tell the attendant they are participating in the meetings, and fees will be waived.

The Westside Newcomers Club plans to host a coffee event for prospective members at 9:15 a.m. July 2 at Grace in the Desert Episcopal Church, 2004 Spring Gate Lane.

The coffee event takes place the first Wednesday of each month. A luncheon with a program is planned for the second Wednesday of each month.

The social club is for women who have lived in the area for 10 years or less or for those who have a life-changing event, such as retirement.

The Westside Chicago Club plans to meet at 2 p.m. July 2 at the Sahara West Library, 9600 W. Sahara Ave.

The group meets the first Sunday of each month and consists mostly of people who have retired to Las Vegas. Monthly meetings start with a short business meeting, followed by a program. The group is open to all.

TICKETS ON SALE FOR SHRINERS FOR HOSPITALS FOR CHILDREN OPEN

Tickets for Las Vegas’ official PGA Tour event, the Shriners Hospitals for Children Open, are on sale. Part of the FedExCup regular season, the weeklong charitable tournament is set for Oct. 13-19 at TPC Summerlin, 1700 Village Center Circle.

Every ticket sold will grant access to The Hill, a 22,000-square-foot pavilion overlooking the 16th, 17th and 18th holes. Premium food options and beverages including wine and spirits will be available for purchase for ticket holders.

WALKER FURNITURE’S HELP FOR HEROES PROGRAM ACCEPTING LETTERS

Walker Furniture has unveiled a program to help provide a better quality of life for wounded U.S. military personnel and veterans in Clark County, who are in need of specialized items not generally available through the Veterans Administration.

The new program, Help for Heroes, is scheduled to run through July 1 and rely on letters from the community written on behalf of prospective recipients.

Walker Furniture will provide 10 military individuals and families with a variety of necessary items that may include lift chairs, adjustable beds, new mattresses and dining sets. Each delivery will be specific to the needs of each recipient.

Letters received will be reviewed and evaluated by an independent panel headed by Cmdr. John Rupe of the American Legion Paradise Post 149. The post commander will visit each prospective recipient to evaluate their individual needs.
