Summerlin celebrates July 4

The master-planned community of Summerlin will host Fourth of July two events: the 14th annual Summerlin Council Patriotic Parade and the 10th annual Summerlin Star Spangled Spectacular.

The Summerlin Council Patriotic Parade is expecting over 35,000 people to attend this year to enjoy the collection of more than 60 entries including traditional floats, dance performers, musical groups, giant inflatable balloons, cars and other decorated vehicles, dignitaries and local mascots.

The parade begins at 9 am on the corner of Hillpointe Road and Hills Center Drive in The Trails Village of Summerlin. The parade will travel south on Hills Center Drive toward the Village Center Circle roundabout before heading west on Trailwood Drive and will end at the corner of Trailwood Drive and Spring Gate Lane.

Title sponsors of the 2008 parade are Summerlin and The Howard Hughes Corporation. Other sponsors include Securitas, Home News Community Newspapers of Nevada and General Growth Properties, Inc., parent company of The Howard Hughes Corporation and one of the largest owner and developer of retail space in southern Nevada.

The Summerlin Star Spangled Spectacular, underwritten by The Howard Hughes Corporation, features a performance of patriotic music by the Las Vegas Philharmonic under the direction of conductor David Itkin and associate conductor Richard McGee. A full fireworks show by pyrotechnics company, Zambelli Internationale, accompanies the evening's traditional finale, a performance of Tchaikovsky's "1812 Overture." Other sponsors of this event include the City of Las Vegas and Ruth's Chris Steak House.

The Summerlin Star Spangled Spectacular is held at The Hills Park, 9100 Hillpointe Road. Gates open at 4:30 p.m.; and the concert begins at 8 p.m.. Tickets are $25 in advance and $20 for children ages 6-12. To purchase tickets or for additional information, contact 895-2787.
