Summerlin celebrates springtime

Hundreds of Summerlin residents attended the 18th Summerlin Egg Hunt Eggstravaganza March 31 at The Trails Park.

The spring event featured a variety of activities for all ages, including a candy and egg hunt, train ride, petting zoo, bounce house and visits from several characters, such as Mr. Bunny and the community's mascot, Summerlin Sam. Face painters and balloon artists also contributed to the festive atmosphere of the event.

"The Summerlin Egg Hunt Eggstravaganza is a rewarding and entertaining event," said Lezlie Barnson-DeNardin, director of community relations for The Summerlin Council, the nonprofit arm of the Summerlin Community Association that oversees resident programming. "It's fun to see literally hundreds of smiling children running across the green grass filling up their Easter baskets with treats. And it's entertaining to see a child's face when they meet Mr. Bunny. Their joy and excitement is undeniable and contagious, which is why so many residents love this event. It truly is an annual favorite for many of our young families."

According to Tom Warden, senior vice president of community and government relations for The Howard Hughes Corp., developer of Summerlin, the council-planned events and activities contribute to Summerlin's overall sense of community.

"Summerlin's programming rivals that of city, county and government entities," he said. "There isn't another master-planned community in Southern Nevada that plans more activities for its residents than Summerlin. And we're proud of that."

Other annual resident events include Snow Day, Summerlin Circus, Hometown Holidays and Summerlin Pumpkin Festival. Residents are informed of upcoming events in a newsletter mailed to all homes in the Summerlin Community Association.
