Summerlin is home to 26 public, private schools

Nearly 30,000 students will attend school in the master-planned community of Summerlin for the 2011-2012 school year. The community is currently home to 26 public and private schools, more than any other community in Southern Nevada.

"Educational opportunities are a core foundation of Summerlin's master plan," said Kevin Orrock, executive vice president of master-planned communities for The Howard Hughes Corp., developer of Summerlin. "School sites are carefully planned, located close to neighborhoods and parks and easily accessible by trails, to make things as convenient as possible for Summerlin students. It's smart development, literally."

Summerlin is not only known for its quantity of educational opportunities, but for its quality as well.

"Summerlin schools rank among Southern Nevada's top performing in terms of academics, athletics and extracurricular involvement," Orrock said. "This is extremely effective in attracting families to the community who value education and extra curricular involvement."

Summerlin is home to The Meadows School -- the only school in Nevada that places 100 percent of its graduates in four-year accredited colleges and universities; Bishop Gorman High School -- the only Catholic High School in Southern Nevada with a rich tradition of athletic excellence with more than 65 state championships during its 56-year history; Palo Verde High School, which boasts nearly 20 athletic state championships during its 14-year history; West Career and Technical Academy, the community's newest school offering a specialized curriculum in medical and environmental sciences; and The Adelson Educational Campus -- the only Jewish school in Nevada offering pre-kindergarten to grade 12.

Summerlin began to take shape in 1990 and has ranked in the country's top 10 best-selling master-planned communities for nearly two decades.

Located along the western rim of the Las Vegas Valley, Summerlin encompasses 22,500 acres with about 7,500 acres still remaining to accommodate future growth within the master plan. The community is currently home to nearly 100,000 residents.

Some amenities include village parks, Summerlin Trail System, 14 houses of worship, nine golf courses, shopping centers, medical and cultural facilities and business parks.
