Summerlin to construct homes at The Ridges

The year 2011 is off to a strong start in The Ridges at Summerlin, Southern Nevada's custom-home enclave overlooking the Las Vegas Valley from the community's western most edge just south of Red Rock Canyon.

According to Kevin Orrock, president of Summerlin, 23 new custom homes are under construction and another 20 homes are currently undergoing design review in anticipation of breaking ground later this year.

"The number of custom homes now under construction in The Ridges speaks volumes about growing economic confidence," Orrock said.

Home to community leaders, corporate executives, entrepreneurs, inventors and dozens of successful professionals from the medical and legal communities, The Ridges offers sanctuary to those seeking respite from the city while still providing close proximity to Las Vegas.

The Ridges is a nearly 800-acre, guard-gated residential village nestled against the mountainside adjacent to Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area. It features some of the most dramatic and stunning natural topography in Las Vegas, and by virtue of its elevated location, offers views of the Las Vegas Valley and the Las Vegas Strip at many locations throughout the community.

Signature amenities in The Ridges include one of the world's first Bear's Best golf courses designed by Jack Nicklaus, as well as Club Ridges, an exclusive fitness and health club that features private tennis courts, swimming pools, a fitness center, personal training and group fitness classes for the exclusive use of Ridges' residents.

To date, nearly 300 custom-home sites have been sold in The Ridges. The neighborhood of Falcon Ridge has only a few remaining home sites available for sale and Azure is actively selling.

Custom-home sites in The Ridges are priced starting in the high $200,000s to more than $1 million. Home site sizes range from one-quarter to one acre, with a limited number larger than one acre.

"The Ridges at Summerlin is a spectacular showcase of the valley's most impressive and stunning custom residences," said Peggy Chandler, senior vice president of land sales for Summerlin.

According to Chandler, the homes embody a desert contemporary style designed to blend into The Ridges' natural surroundings. "The Ridges' design guidelines ensure that all custom homes adhere to standards in harmony with the environment, while still allowing for visionary architecture and design," she said. "The result is a community that enhances, not detracts from the area's natural beauty."

Ridges residents have access to the community's amenities, including more than 150 parks, more than 150 miles of trails, special resident social and athletic events and programs, 26 public and private schools and more than a dozen houses of worship. Summerlin began to take shape in 1990. .
