Summerlin to hold competition

The public is invited to celebrate Summerlin's 20th birthday at a free cake competition Tuesday at 5 p.m. to be held at Le Cordon Bleu College of Culinary Arts Las Vegas, 1451 Center Crossing Road.

"The Summerlin Cake Competition is a fun, interactive way for us to celebrate the community's 20th birthday with valley residents," said Nikkole Liesse, marketing director for Summerlin.

"We encourage everyone to join the celebration and come hungry -- there will be lots of cake."

Guests will have the opportunity to sample cakes after the winners are announced in the following five categories:  most creative, best representation of Summerlin, most delicious, best kids (8 to 17-years-old) and best overall.

Each winner will receive a $100 American Express gift card.  The best overall winner will also receive a complimentary dinner for four at Café Bleu, Le Cordon Bleu's student-run, fine-dining restaurant.

Guests also will have the opportunity to participate in a carnival-style cake walk for a chance to win one of 12 cakes donated by Le Cordon Bleu chefs and students. Tickets for the calk walk will be sold at the event for $10.  All proceeds from the event will benefit Three Square Food Bank, a local nonprofit organization dedicated to providing wholesome food to people, in honor of Hunger Action Month.

According to Julie Murray, president and CEO of Three Square, for every $10 donated Three Square is able to provide 30 meals to those in need in our community.

"We encourage everyone to participate in the cake walk and support Three Square in its worthwhile mission," Liesse said. "Ten dollars is a small contribution that will make a big difference to those in need."
