ARTISTS 50 OR OLDER INVITED TO ENTER COUNTY fine arts CONTEST

Clark County residents 50 or older are invited to enter their original artworks in the 12th annual Celebrating Life! fine arts competition, sponsored by the Las Vegas Arts Commission and the city of Las Vegas.

Entries will be accepted between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. today and Wednesday at the Charleston Heights Arts Center, 800 S. Brush St. Fine art media categories are: drawing and pastel; mixed media (2-D); painting (oil or acrylic); sculpture and ceramics (3-D); watercolor and gouache; and photography/digital photography.

There is no fee to enter the juried event. A public reception and awards ceremony is slated from 6 to 7:30 p.m. May 25 at the Charleston Heights Arts Center. The exhibition is scheduled to be displayed there May 25 through July 11. The reception and exhibition admission are free. Award-winning pieces will be on display at the City Hall Chamber Gallery from July 26 through Sept. 6.

Center to host Senior Shin Dig

The Adventuredome at Circus Circus, 2880 Las Vegas Blvd. South, is selling tickets to its inaugural GradBlast 2012, which is planned for 7 p.m. May 24. The event is set to feature unlimited rides, four dance floor areas and prizes, including a 2012 Chevrolet Camaro.

SEEKS HOST FAMILIES FOR STUDENTS

The Program of Academic Exchange, or PAX, is accepting applications for host families for the 2012-13 school year for its foreign exchange student program.

Hosts are expected to provide a room, food and an environment in which to study. Exchange students are fully insured and are responsible for their own spending money.

New Aircraft to be demonstrated

Manufacturers plan to demonstrate new remote-control aircraft from 9 to 11 a.m. May 1 at William Bennett Field. The official address is 6800 E. Russell Road, but it is best accessed by following the road that runs north of Sam Boyd Stadium and turning left past the practice field.
