MIDNIGHT MAYHEM RETURNS

The 12th season of Midnight Mayhem is scheduled from 6 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. Friday at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway, 7000 Las Vegas Blvd. North. The event is a safe alternative to illegal street racing and allows drivers to pit their own street vehicles against one another on a drag strip. WETLANDS PARK TO HOST GUIDED HIKE

RACE FOR A CAUSE AT LAPS FOR CHARITY EVENT

The Las Vegas chapter of Speedway Children's Charities is set to present the third annual Laps for Charity event from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway, 7000 Las Vegas Blvd. North. Participants are invited to drive their personal vehicles at 75 miles per hour around the 1.5-mile speedway track behind a pace car for $30 for three laps. CORA COLEMAN SENIOR CENTER TO HOST HEALTHY EATING SERIES

Food for Health and Soul, a series of classes taught by Ramona Woodward of the University of Nevada Cooperative Extension, is scheduled from 11:15 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. Wednesdays at the Cora Coleman Senior Center, 2100 Bonnie Lane. The six-class series is scheduled for consecutive Wednesdays and begins with Healthy Eating Using Food Labels. The classes are free, but registration is recommended. TEEN PREGNANCY PREVENTION COALITION PLANS WORKSHOP

The Southern Nevada Teen Pregnancy Prevention Coalition plans to host a series of free workshops for parents and guardians who want to

develop skills to talk with their pre-teen and teen children about sexual relationships, preventing teen pregnancy and sexually transmitted infections.

Nevada ranks second in the country for teenage pregnancies and 10th for teenage births, according to the Southern Nevada Health District.

The first workshop is scheduled for 6 to 8:30 p.m. Jan. 29 at the Walnut Cecile Community Center at 3075 Walnut Road in Las Vegas. More

workshops are planned to be scheduled in zip codes identified as high risk, including: 89119, 89115, 89030, 89106, 89101, 89102, and 89109.

According to the Nevada State Health Division, in 2008, youth living within these zip codes represented 23 percent of teen births in Clark County.

LECTURE ON GUY MCAFEE SLATED

A lecture by Clark County Parks and Recreation cultural program supervisor Patrick Gaffey about controversial historical figure Guy McAfee is scheduled at 11:15 a.m. Feb. 1 at the Cora Coleman Senior Center, 2100 Bonnie Lane. SUPER BOWL SKATE PARTY PLANNED

A Super Bowl skate party is scheduled from noon to 10 p.m. Feb. 3 at Crystal Palace Skating Center, 4680 Boulder Highway. Admission is $9 or $10 with skate rental included. Participates may pick their favorite team and receive a free soft drink every time that team scores.

HOSPICE PET THERAPY PROGRAM SEEKS DOG BEDS AND BLANKETS

Nathan Adelson Hospice's Pet Therapy Program is promoting its second annual Dog Bed & Blanket Drive to benefit local animal shelters.

Through Jan. 31, Nathan Adelson Hospice and the Jolley Urga Wirth Woodbury & Standish law firm will be collecting new or gently used dog beds and blankets, towels and unopened dog food.

Donations can be dropped off at any of the Nathan Adelson Hospice locations: 4141 Swenson St.; in the MountainView Medical Office Building, 3150 N. Tenaya Way, Suite 350; 1401 S. Highway 160, Suite B, Pahrump; and 1201 Nevada State Drive, Henderson. They also can be dropped off to attorneys Holly Fic and Jennifer Poynter-Willis at the Jolley Urga Wirth Woodbury & Standish law firm, 3800 Howard Hughes Parkway, Suite 1600.
