Supercar celebration will convene in Las Vegas Valley

Findlay Acura in kicking off a long list of special promotions Thursday with a giant 14th anniversary celebration of the Acura NSX scheduled for the dealership in the Valley Automall.

Spearheaded by the NSX Club of America and hosted by Findlay Acura, the NSXPO gathering scheduled from 11 a.m. until 5 p.m. is expected to attract more than 130 vehicles and more than 300 NSX enthusiasts visiting the dealership. The collection marks the largest NSX gathering in North America.

The gathering of Acura NSX owners is now in its 14th year alternating between the East and West coasts. The arrival in Las Vegas at Findlay Acura is considered ideal since the city is known as the entertainment capital of the world. The event marks the 20th anniversary of the NSX, which was introduced in 1990.

The midengine all-aluminum Japanese-built NSX has drawn international acclaim since being introduced in 1990.

The event at Findlay Acura will also include exhibits in the dealership's shop, including customized alignments on the NSX models; reviews of computers while the cars are running; along with various NSX models that will sit atop a hoist so clients can see the underside of the impressive vehicle.

"This is going to give all NSX owners the chance to understand their vehicles better than ever," said Findlay Acura Service and Parts Director Charlie Galterio, adding that a trivia contest will award prizes to the winners. "The knowledge gained out of this is going to be very impressive."

A car show with the theme "Beauty Is More Than Skin Deep" will be presented in the Findlay Acura lot showing the Best Factory pre-2002 NSX; the Best OEM NSX after 2002; the best Wide Body NSX; the Best Modified NSX; the Best Custom Color; and the vehicle with the most horsepower along with the NSX with the most miles.

After the Findlay Acura event, the NSXPO will move to several other areas in Southern Nevada. Other activities Oct. 29 will include a cruise to Lee Canyon beginning from the South Point starting at 7 a.m., and Midnight Mayhem at the Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

On Oct. 30, the NSXPO contingent will invade Spring Mountain Motorsports Ranch in Pahrump where participants will try out the facility's 3.5-mile road course. While competition is being staged in Pahrump, nonparticipants will go to the Cars and Coffee weekly car show on South Eastern Avenue and Silverado Boulevard before taking a scenic drive through Red Rock Canyon; have lunch at Spring Mountain Motor-
sports Ranch; and then journey to Death Valley.

On Oct. 31, the group will caravan down Las Vegas Boulevard before going to Hoover Dam on Nov. 1.

Now in its fifth year of existence, the local Acura NSX Club has 15 energetic members who live, eat and breathe the popular Acura product. Previous NSXPO gatherings have been presented throughout North America including Columbus, Ohio; Portland, Ore.; and Toronto, Canada. This year's event was scheduled in Las Vegas to run in conjunction with the giant Specialty Equipment Manufacturers Association convention.

"For us, this is a really big deal," said Danny Young, who is president of the local chapter. "This is a special car because it was Japan's first super car with an all-aluminum body. With an Acura being a Honda, you get high-performance or exotic-car performance with Honda reliability."

Young said the event would also include the first ever aerial photograph of the largest collection of Acura NSXs ever assembled. The shot will be taken by helicopter with two photographers over the parking lot of the South Point. The cars will be arranged in the letters NSX.

"This is an incredible event, and we're so happy to be a part of it," said Findlay Acura General Manager James Cobbs.

Findlay Acura is part of the Findlay Automotive Group founded more than 49 years ago by the late Pete Findlay whose son, Cliff, now oversees new- and used-car dealerships in Nevada, Arizona, Utah and Idaho.
