Teacher accused of putting autistic boy in trash can

A special education teacher in Georgia is being accused of cruelty to children after an incident with an autistic second-grade boy.

Police say Mary Katherine Pursley held the boy upside down by his legs and lowered him into a trash can, AP reported. An arrest warrant said Pursley told him he had “trashy behavior” like Oscar the Grouch from Sesame Street.

According to AP, another employee of Mount Bethel Elementary School witnessed Pursley do it on April 30.

Pursley is on administrative leave with pay and faces a felony charge of first-degree cruelty to children.
