Teen told he can’t fly American flag on car for safety concerns
A South Carolina high school student gained a wave of support from his community in York County after he was told he couldn’t fly an American flag in the back of his truck.
Peyton Robinson had been flying flags from the back of his truck when the high school asked him to to not display them because “other people have complained about it,” WCNC reported.
“Well let me tell you something, I have every right to fly an American flag. It will not be coming off of my truck. This really pisses me off,” Robinson posted on Instagram. “I ask that everyone that sees this post that attends York Comprehinsive flys [sic] an American flag of some sort on whatever they may drive to school tomorrow to prove a point. I will not let this go down without a fight.”
An administrator told WCNC the issue was one of safety, not the message, noting that the large flag can obstruct the rear view while driving.
Robinson’s post spread through town and the next day, many were showing up proudly displaying American flags, POW flags and a Confederate flag.
“School says they want us to have American pride, let us fly our flags,” he said.
