THEATER: ‘Wicked’ launches $25 ticket lottery

With "Wicked" finally checking into The Smith Center for a six-week run next week, it stands to reason that the Tony-winning musical would get into the Vegas spirit.

And it has — with a daily, day-of-performance lottery for $25 orchestra seats. Considering that "Wicked" orchestra seats are priced between $93 and $197, depending on day of performance and seat location, that qualifies as a wicked god deal indeed.

Here's how it works, if you want to enter: 2 1/2 hours before each performance, show up at The Smith Center box office to place your name in a lottery drum. A half-hour later, names will be drawn — and winners will be able to purchase $25 orchestra seats (cash only). The lottery is available only in person at the box office, and there's a limit of two $25 seats per winner. (And bring your photo ID, just in case you win ... and wind up with a chance to buy tickets.)

"Wicked" — which focuses on the early lives of those dueling "Wizard of Oz" witches, the Wicked Witch of the West and Glinda the Good — will be at The Smith Center's Reynolds Hall Aug. 29-Oct. 7.

And if you'd rather not gamble on those $25 tickets, you can buy regularly priced seats (starting at $39), online at www.TheSmithCenter.com or by calling The Smith Center box office at (702) 749-2000.
