Red Bull manny mania skateboarding contest hits Henderson in June

The Henderson Events Plaza, 200 S. Water St., plans to host a qualifier for the international skateboard competition Red Bull Manny Mania, which highlights manual balance tricks and the technical side of skateboarding. The competition, which features 45 to 50 competitors ages 14 to 25, starts at 6 p.m. June 18.

Entry fee for competitors is free, and athletes can sign up at the event. Practice begins at 4 p.m.

The winner from the Las Vegas stop will earn a trip to Los Angeles to compete in the U.S. National Final on July 9. The winner from the L.A. competition will represent the United States at the Red Bull Manny Mania World Final, where amateurs from 32 countries meet to determine the global champion.

Super Summer Theatre
opens season with 'Annie'

Super Summer Theatre debuts its first performance of 2011 this week with Stage Door Entertainment's production of "Annie." Shows start at 8 p.m. Wednesdays through Saturdays until June 25. Shows are at Spring Mountain Ranch State Park on State Highway 159, 10 miles west of the Las Vegas Beltway.

'The Lion King' offers Locals discount
on children's tickets throughout June

Disney's "The Lion King" at Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino is introducing its first locals' ticket offer just for children. For weekend matinee performances during June, each adult purchasing a full-price ticket can purchase two child tickets for $15.

Tickets can be purchased at the Mandalay Bay box office or the MGM Resorts Call Center at 877-632-7000. Mention "roar" for purchase. The ticket offer is available for the 4 p.m. performance of "The Lion King" on Saturdays and Sundays in June with a valid Nevada ID.

Children must be younger than 17; there is a maximum of two child tickets per one adult ticket.

Get half-price tickets to 'BODIES' and 'Titanic' exhibits on select Thursdays

"BODIES… The Exhibition" and "Titanic: The Artifact Exhibition" at Luxor Hotel & Casino introduce "Thrifty Thursdays" for locals through September. Locals can receive half-off adult admission to the exhibitions on the second Thursday of each month after 7 p.m.

The "Thrifty Thursdays" offer is valid on Thursday and July 7, Aug. 11 and Sept. 8.

The discount may not be combined with any other offer. Guests must present a valid Nevada ID at the Luxor box office when purchasing a ticket. to feature O.A.R.

Red Rock Resort's Revolution: Party for the People concert series plans to present O.A.R., short for Of A Revolution, at 9 p.m. Friday at the Sandbar outdoor poolside venue, 11011 W. Charleston Blvd.

The alternative rock band's hits include "That Was a Crazy Game of Poker," "Love and Memories," "Heard the World" and "Shattered."

DJ AL3 is scheduled to spin tunes from 7 p.m. until the headliner takes the stage.

The Rainbow Company Youth Theatre is scheduled to present "How I Became a Pirate" at 7 p.m. Thursday, Friday and Saturday and at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Charleston Heights Arts Center, 800 S. for Saturday in Las Vegas

Reggae in the Desert celebrates a decade of bringing national acts to the local stage during the 10th annual festival Saturday at the Clark County Government Center, 500 S. Grand Central Parkway. Freddie McGregor, Mykal Rose, Don Carlos, Junior Reid, Michael Black, Detour Posse, Reggae Angels and Reggae in the Desert staple DJ Rhamma are scheduled to perform.

A tribute to the photography of the late Las Vegas Review-Journal assistant city editor Warren Bates is on display at Left of Center Art Gallery, 2207 W. Gowan Road.

The exhibit is called "road to zzyzx." Its images document deserted areas in and around the desert settlement. It is scheduled to run through Saturday .

Bates died in April 2010, seven miles outside the California ghost town of Amboy, more than 130 miles from Las Vegas, when a train broadsided his car. He was 49.

The inaugural Zombie Riderz Festival is set from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday at Jesse James Rock House (formally Dylan's Roadhouse), 4660 Boulder Highway.

The festival is set to include performances from a dozen bands and include more than 100 outdoor vendors showcasing clothing, arts and crafts, jewelry and special interests. Plans include bouncy castles and rides for kids and live daily wrestling matches from Adrenaline Unleashed.

A raffle is planned with prizes provided by Boulder Station Casino to benefit the Lili Claire foundation, which provides resources for special- needs children. The outdoor portion of the festival is for all ages and open to the public. The performances indoors are for adults 21 or older, and admission is $12 per day or $100 for a two-day VIP package.
