Worth A Drive

Children are invited to visit the Red Rock Canyon Visitor Center at the Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area, 1000 Scenic Loop Drive, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday to meet mascot Mojave Max and learn about the state reptile, the desert tortoise. Call Janis Kadlec at 515-5380.

The city of North Las Vegas Movie Madness free movie in the park nights are scheduled to begin at dusk. Kids activities are slated at
6:30 p.m. Moviegoers are invited to bring blankets, picnic baskets and refreshments. Movies planned at Nature Discovery Park, 2600 Nature Park Drive, include "Puss in Boots," Friday and "Zookeeper," Sept. 21. The Dive-In Movie Series at the JW Marriott, 221 N. Rampart Blvd., continues at 8:30 p.m. Saturdays through this weekend. Admission is free for Las Vegas residents. As part of the Bikinis, Bands and Burgers Poolside Concert Series, R&B artist Chico DeBarge and Barry Black & The Senzuals are set to perform at 7 p.m. Sunday. "Women of Da Blues," a Music on the Mountain show, is planned for
10:30 a.m. Sept. 8 at the Las Vegas Ski & Snowboard Resort, 6725 Lee Canyon Road on Mount Charleston. Gates open at 10 a.m. Acts are scheduled to include Janiva Magness, Cheryl Justice Band, The Mixx featuring Mary Ball and Kelly "Madame Buttons" Sheehan with friends. Tickets are $15 for adults, $12 for military personnel with a valid ID, $5 for children 12 or younger and free for children 4 or younger. Parking is free.
