Tiny, two-legged puppy tries 3-D printed wheels for help — VIDEO

A two-legged shelter puppy is, almost, back on his feet.

Tumbles, born without his front legs, is using a 3-D printed wheelchair, created by scientists at the Ohio University Innovation Center, to serve as his front two legs.

A rescue puppy at Friends of the Shelter Dogs in Athens, Ohio, Tumbles was taken off the streets two weeks after he was born, according to a report from ABC News. Joe Jollick, lab director of the Innovation Center, said he's pleased with the results.

"Everyone is real enthusiastic," Jollick said. "Our main goal [was] to get him off the ground. The second thing is to get him used to it."

Jollick said the center started using the 3-D printer in 2013, and that the wheelchair took 14 hours to print. Tumbles will go through physical therapy to adapt to his new wheels, Jollick said.

The puppy's caretakers will need "a lot of patience," he added. "It's a tiny puppy so it's going to take some work."
