A New York couple said they are outraged after their Uber driver refused to take them to the hospital and instead left the woman stranded on the sidewalk in labor.
According to the couple, the Uber driver became angry after the expectant mother vomited on the sidewalk and informed them he would lose $1,000 a day if the woman were to become sick in his car, Fortune reported.
According to the couple, the driver told David Lee and his wife that no other (Uber) driver would agree to drive a woman in labor.
The couple said the driver charged the couple a $13 fee for his lost time.
Lee and his wife were able to summon another Uber car, which drove them to the hospital without hesitation, they said.
“I don’t blame Uber for one driver’s poor actions, since bad apples can appear in any organization, but I do think that when a company has a culture of bullying their way past laws and regulations, as Uber seems to do, they begin to think they can act with impunity in anything,” Lee told Fortune.
Although Uber did refund the $13 fee, Lee said that they would not acknowledge any wrongdoing by the company or the driver.
