US Chamber of Commerce targets Masto for comment on Affordable Care Act

The U.S. Chamber of Commerce is launching a new ad that targets Catherine Cortez Masto for saying she would have voted for the Affordable Care Act.

The 30-second spot, released Tuesday, is part of an ad buy of at least $1 million and airs in Las Vegas and Reno on television, cable and online. Cortez Masto is the Democratic candidate in Nevada’s U.S. Senate race and faces Republican Joe Heck, a congressman.

The ad features footage from Cortez Masto responding to a question posed by political journalist Jon Ralston asking her if she would have voted for the Affordable Care Act, which overhauled healthcare in the U.S.

“Yes, because I think you need to start somewhere,” Cortez Masto says in the clip.

Cortez Masto spokesman Zach Hudson said “no amount of special interests attacks” will change the fact that Cortez Masto wants to make healthcare more affordable and accessible compared to her GOP opponent.

The chamber has already put $2.65 million into the Nevada race.
