Will Reid stand by his man Menendez?

When the story first surfaced some weeks ago that the FBI was probing Sen. Bob Menendez, D-N.J., and a campaign finance pal for among other things sexually violating underage girls, I thought it was odd in the extreme that Sen. Harry Reid would politically put his arm around Menendez and give him what amounts to a hug of encouragement.

But then I think Sen. Reid is odd in the extreme as a general rule. (Who can forget how he had the back of President Bill Clinton when he was accused of sexually violating a White House intern?)

Maybe with Sen. Reid it is just politics over righteousness, a common Washington disease and nothing else. But it is worth noting that the Obama Administration is standing clear of Menendez, while Sen. Reid is closing in for a kiss.

But now that the mainstream news media has started to cover the Menendez deal, it will be interesting to see if Nevada's senior senator starts to put a little distance between himself and Menendez.

It's just a thought.
