Woman arrested after 1-year-old tests positive for meth

A woman in Newton, Iowa was arrested after a 1-year-old boy in her care tested positive for high levels of meth.
An arrest warrant was issued for 22-year-old Vanessa Trotter last month. She was pulled over two weeks later, when police found a pipe inside her car.
According to KCCI, the baby tested positive for methamphetamine at levels five times higher than Trotter.
Police are crediting Trotters’ community for the lead to her arrest, when neighbors started to worry about the condition of her home and her strange behaviors.
“I think that the kid has a better chance now of having a good life. It was really, really despicable what they did. That child should not have been subjected to that at all,” neighbor Stephanie Jones told KCCI.
They were unable to confirm if the child was hers. Police also arrested her boyfriend, Cody Sanders, 27.
