Woman doused with gas, set on fire by ex

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — Jefferson County sheriff’s officials say a woman has been hospitalized in serious condition after being doused in gasoline and set on fire by her ex-boyfriend.

Sheriff’s spokesman Randy Christian said in a statement that the 49-year-old woman suffered extensive burns to her head, arms, upper body and legs in an attack early Sunday morning.

Christian says 48-year-old Michael Kennedy of Mulga had been dating the victim for three years and the woman ended their relationship about a month ago. Christian says investigators learned that Kennedy stole the woman’s SUV and returned to her house early Sunday morning.

Christian says the man may be driving the woman’s gold, 2000 Ford Expedition. The vehicle’s tag number is 1B11H83.

Christian says Kennedy is facing charges of domestic violence and attempted murder.
