YOUR WEEKEND: Soak up classical music at Winchester

Take a break Sunday afternoon for a concert of classical works.

The local group Mechta Trio will present a selection of classical pieces during a concert at 2 p.m. Jan. 24 at the Winchester Cultural Center, 3130 S. McLeod Drive. The concert will feature Rachmaninov’s Trio No. 1 in G Minor “Elegiaque,” Dvorack’s “Dumky” trio and Shchedrin’s “Three Funny Pieces.” Tickets are $10 for adults, $7 for seniors and students.

The group members are Laraine Kaizer-Viazovtsev, Maria “Masha” Pisarenko and Elena Kapustina.  Kaizer-Viazovtsev earned a doctorate in violin performance from the University of Cincinnati and works in Las Vegas as a freelance violinist and with the Las Vegas Philharmonic.

Pisarenko was born in Siberia and received her master’s degree from the Russian Academy of Music. She performed and competed throughout Europe, then came to the United States three years ago.

Kapustina graduated from the Belarus State Conservatory. She performed with the Opera and Philharmonic Society Orchestra of Plovdiv in Bulgaria, and the Plovdiv National Opera Theater Orchestra and is a cellist for the Las Vegas Philharmonic.
