YOUR WEEKEND: This last hoorah at Desert Breeze Water Park is for the dogs

It’s time for outdoor pools around the valley to shut down for fall and winter. That means Desert Breeze Water Park at 8275 W. Spring Mountain Road is ready for one last hoorah before shutting its doors. This one is for the dogs.

Clark County Parks and Recreation will host the fourth annual Dog Daze of Summer starting at 9 a.m. Sept. 13. Pool employees open up the doors to let pooches splash around in the water (without their owners).

The first session is from 9 to 10:15 a.m. for dogs 50 pounds or lighter, and the second session runs from 10:45 to noon for dogs 50 pounds or heavier. In addition, prizes will be given for the shortest and tallest dog for each session, as well as for funny pet tricks.

Admission is $2 per dog or a one-item donation to the Nevada SPCA. Humans are free.

Owners must have their dog’s current rabies tag or other proof of vaccination before they are allowed in the pool. All dogs must enter and leave on a leash and be in the owners’ control at all times. Owners must stay in the facility to assist their dogs out of the water. Dogs showing signs of aggression will be asked to leave. Owners must clean up after their dogs; bags will be provided.
