YOUR WEEKEND: Walks set to support four-legged friends

Two dog-themed walks will take place in the Summerlin area this weekend, starting with the Mutts 'n' Masters 5K Run and 1-Mile Fun Walk at 8 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 17, at the Veterans Memorial Leisure Services Center, 101 N. Pavilion Center Drive.

The walk is for all ages, and the cost to participate is free for ages up to 11. Ages older than 11 are $25 for the 5K and $20 for the 1-Mile, if paid in advance, and $30 for the 5K and $25 for the 1-Mile on event day. To register, visit Active.com's site or www.lasvegasnevada.gov.

The ninth annual Lose a Pound with Your Hound walk is set for Sunday, Oct. 18, at Bunker Family Park, 7351 W. Alexander Road. Registration begins at 9 a.m., and the walk begins at 10 am.

This event will benefit the Heaven Can Wait Animal Society's new, low-cost spay and neuter clinic.

Registration is $25 per entry. Participants also can register the day of the walk for $30. Family packs for two adults and two children are available for $40, and children ages 5 and under are free.
