MGM Resorts last Las Vegas operator standing in Osaka bid – VIDEO

Japan is getting ready to issue three highly coveted gaming licenses. The country’s gaming market is estimated to be worth more than $25 billion a year once resorts open in 2025. If the estimates stand up, Japan would become the second-largest gaming market in the world behind Chinese gaming enclave Macau. MGM and at least eight other companies had been vying for the Japanese licenses. In 2019 Las Vegas Sands Corp. and Wynn Resorts Ltd. turned their attention to other areas. Caesars Entertainment Corp. dropped out of the race altogether. MGM teamed up with Japanese financial services group Orix for its bid for a gaming license. MGM/Orix group was the only one to participate in the RFP process. “We think MGM is in a very good position in Osaka at this point” – Union Gaming analyst John DeCree (Las Vegas Review-Journal)

Forgotten battle of World War II

American forces reclaimed remote Attu Island on May 30, 1943, after a 19-day campaign known as World War II’s forgotten battle. Much of the fighting was hand-to-hand, waged in dense fog and winds of up to 120 mph.
Casualties were high; only 28 of 2,500 Japanese soldiers survived. More than 500 U.S. soldiers died in the “forgotten battle.” American forces had trained in California for desert combat and were not prepared for the harsh Alaska weather. On the final assault on U.S. forces on May 29 1943, 200 Japanese soldiers were killed and another 500 held grenades to their bellies and pulled the pins. The battle for Attu proved to be unimportant to the rest of the war, but American planes did use the island to bomb the northernmost reaches of Japan.

However, the family received a Great Dane instead There’s no word on when the dog will arrive in Kansas City. The news comes after a dog died while stashed in an overhead bin on a Houston-to-New York flight.

CES just ended in Las Vegas, but not without showcasing some must have gadgets for the home. Sony’s Aibo puppy robot has a camera in its nose, OLED screens for eyes and touch sensors on its body that give it the ability to recognize faces and react to petting. The puppy becomes attached to you the more you play with it and interacts with each person differently. The robot will go on sale in Japan this month for around $1,700. Hate folding laundry? The Foldimate folds clothes, towels and other items and stacks them in a neat pile. Foldimate will begin shipping the machines to the U.S. in late 2019. The machines will cost around $900. South Korea’s Coway has developed an appliance that can remove odors, bacteria and dust from clothing without the need to wash them. The Air Shower can freshen clothing in 45 minutes, and will soon be made available in the U.S. Always losing things? Tile will help you find them. The square-shaped Tile attaches to items like your keychain, bags, purses and even your laptop and can let you know the last location of the item through its app or Google Assistant.
