$50K bail set for suspect in attack on girlfriend seen on video – Video

A judge set bail at $50,000 on Friday for a man accused of beating and kidnapping his girlfriend in an act caught on a home surveillance video. Darnell Rodgers, 23, was arrested early Thursday morning, hours after the Metropolitan Police Department released the video in which a woman was seen crying while she ran to a house screaming for help near Warm Springs Road and the 215 Beltway.

Officers identified a second suspect in a deadly shooting and abduction Wednesday in the west valley, police said. Jessica Tolentino-Arciga, 26, was booked into the Clark County Detention Center on Wednesday in connection with the incident, according to police. Officers previously accused Joseph L. Fernandez Jr., 27, of breaking into his ex-girlfriend’s home just before 4 a.m. He is suspected of abducting his ex-girlfriend, Mandy Hernandez, in a gray BMW sedan and shooting her friend.

He committed suicide in his cell in Sep. 2013. 3. Jaycee Dugard Dugard vanished in 1991 at the age of 11, when she was kidnapped by Phillip Garrido. Garrido and his wife Nancy held Dugard captive in a backyard shed for 18 years. She was raped and birthed two children by Garrido. After visit to UC Berkeley prompted an investigation, Dugard was found and freed by police in 2009. Garrido was sentenced 431 years to life and Nancy was sentenced 36 years to life.

1. A man shot and killed himself in public Monday. Police responded at about 1 p.m. to a call on the 500 block on South 11th Street downtown near East Clark, where callers said they were trying to protect children from seeing the crime scene. No additional details were immediately available.
2. A fired CCSD police lieutenant who was fired after he revealed himself as an FBI informant will be reinstated with more than two years backpay. A ruling found that the district wrongfully fired Dan Burgess, who was among several officers who cooperated with the FBI to uncover corruption within the police department. Burgess said in a statement that he looks forward to getting back to work.
3. Police are investigating a possible kidnapping in northwest Las Vegas. Just before 3 p.m., police received a call that a man was seen putting a hand over a woman’s mouth and pushing her into a black sedan near North Hualapai Way and West Centennial Parkway. The caller said another man was in the vehicle. No other details were immediately available.
