On December 31, 2018 detectives with the LVMPD Northwest Area Command Patrol Investigations Section received a report of the theft of a surveillance camera from the front porch of a residence located in the area of West Lake Mead Boulevard and North Rampart Boulevard. The victim in this case became aware of other residents in the neighborhood who had been the victim of similar crimes.

Newly released body camera footage from the Oct. 1 shooting shows the tense moment as two officers crept into a Mandalay Bay hallway to strap explosives to a hotel room door riddled with bullet holes. SWAT officer Levi Hancock placed the charges while K-9 officer David Newton protected him with a ballistic shield held up in front of the door that killer Stephen Paddock had fired through earlier, wounding hotel security guard Jesus Campos. The moment was captured by the body camera strapped to Newton’s shoulder. Newton can be heard breathing as Hancock works. Then they retreat silently back into a nearby stairwell. The whole thing lasts less than a minute.

The suspect enters the business, threatens the employee with a firearm and demands money from the register. The employee complies and the suspect flees the business.

A woman in her 80s was hospitalized early Wednesday morning after she was beaten and robbed inside her room at a downtown Las Vegas hotel-casino. The woman was trying to unlock the door to her room just before 1:30 a.m. at the 4 Queens, 202 Fremont St., according to Metropolitan Police Department Lt. David Gordon. When the woman opened the door the man forced his way inside and attacked her, striking her in the face and robbing her. The woman was taken to the hospital with injuries to her face, Gordon said.

MGM Resorts International has hired at least five former Metropolitan Police Department SWAT team members and several former military officers in recent months as it strengthens security at its properties following the deadliest mass shooting in modern U.S. history. The company also hired a former Marine Corps sergeant, who is also a firearms instructor, as an emergency response team supervisor in December. “MGM developed an Emergency Response Team Program as part of our commitment to continuous improvement of daily operations and to assess and address security risks,” MGM spokeswoman Debra DeShong said. Each of the five former Metro officers has more than 20 years of experience.

Rookie deputy first flagged Las Vegas murder suspect’s car as stolen

The Texas deputy who first flagged the license plate on suspected Las Vegas killer Anthony Wrobel’s vehicle outside a freeway rest stop last week is in his first year on the force, a fellow deputy said Thursday. When the Oldham County Sheriff’s Office rookie radioed K9 deputy Taner Blackburn, 34, for backup and to tell him the Utah plate came back stolen, Blackburn told him to stay back until he got there. Wrobel, 42, is suspected of opening fire at Sunset Park on two casino executives during a company picnic for employees of The Venetian on April 15. The arrest put an end to a days long nationwide manhunt that included investigators from several local and federal agencies.

Police looking for suspect in deadly shooting at Las Vegas park

Las Vegas police were searching Monday for a Venetian employee suspected of opening fire at a company picnic Sunday night, leaving one woman dead and a man critically injured. The suspect has been identified as 42-year-old Anthony Wrobel. The shooting happened just before 6 p.m. Sunday at Sunset Park, near Eastern Avenue and Sunset Road, where the Strip resort employees were gathered for a company picnic. The victims were taken to Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center, where the woman, who was in her 50s, died. The man was in critical condition late Sunday, but his condition Monday morning wasn’t immediately known.
