Tarkanian’s Rebels made the Thomas & Mack the place to be. The Rebels also played a role in Las Vegas’ emergence as a major city.

On Wednesday, reporters visited Virgin Hyperloop One’s operations near Las Vegas. The company is building a new mode of transit that could go from Las Vegas to Los Angeles in 30 minutes. The last time the company opened up to the public was May 2016. VHO has conducted about 200 runs with its hyperloop test track. In December, the company set a new speed record of 240 mph with the track.
Celebrity chef Mario Batali has been accused of sexual misconduct by at least four women. Three of the women worked for Batali. ABC has asked Batali to “step away” from his cooking show, “The Chew,” while the allegations are under review. Batali, 57, told The Associated Press that the complaints “match up” with his past behavior.

The first lawsuit against MGM Resorts over the Las Vegas shooting has been filed. Plaintiff Paige Gasper, 21, is expected to graduate from Sonoma State University in May. She was shot in the chest and underwent multiple surgeries. The complaint also names the estate of gunman Stephen Paddock, Live Nation Entertainment Inc., Mandalay Corp. and Slide Fire Solutions LP. Las Vegas attorney Nathan Morris said, “We have to maintain our reputation as the safest place on the planet.”

STEM-oriented summer camp company iD Tech has offered weeklong summer tech camps in Nevada for about five years at UNLV, called UNLV Tech Camp. This summer the company launched two other week-long summer tech programs in Nevada: the Alexander Dawson school tech camp, as well as a pilot for an all-girls tech camp called Alexa Cafe.

1. Officers identified a teenage suspect, De’Mario Lofton-Robinson, in the death of a CSN nursing student. Lofton-Robinson, 18, was arrested Thursday on multiple charges, including murder with a deadly weapon. Police say Gabriel George Valenzuela pulled into his driveway and checked his mail before getting into a confrontation with four men. He was shot at least 3 times in his driveway.
2. A federal judge cut a defendant’s testimony short in the middle of his Bunkerville standoff retrial. Before starting the trial, U.S. District Judge Gloria Navarro barred the defense from referencing constitutional rights to assemble or bear arms and prosecutors objected to Eric Parker’s reference to a sniper being involved in the standoff. The court said Parker violated a court order in his testimony.
3. A naked man shot by police last Saturday had $30,000 with him. Court documents show that Jason Funke had donated to the Life Spring Christian Church before and police found the money with his clothing in the church doorway. Police say Funke appeared to be meditating outside the church when he approached police and then fled to retrieve a gun left on the ground.

1. James Beach, the suspect in a tourist’s one-punch death, made his first court appearance Wednesday. Beach’s attorney said that there was never an intention to hurt anybody and that the incident was a terrible accident. Beach is being held without bail at Clark County Detention Center.
2. A police report shows a March shooting death in the east Las Vegas Valley was fueled by drugs, sex and jealousy. According to the report, Derrian Stephens was high on meth and with his girlfriend when Eric Flores came to talk with her. Stephens was upset and hit the woman with a fire extinguisher and left. Later, when the woman went with Flores to Stephen’s house to claim her things, an argument ensued and Flores shot Stephens in the neck. Flores was arrested Monday on one count of murder with a deadly weapon.
3. UNLV forward Dwayne Morgan has been suspended after an arrest over the weekend. Morgan was arrested early Saturday on a disorderly conduct charge after a dispute with a cabdriver. UNLV athletics issued a statement saying they are aware of the situation and have suspended Morgan indefinitely.
