After a 54-year run on ABC, the Indianapolis 500 is switching networks. Starting in 2019, the “Greatest Spectacle in Racing” will be shown on NBC. The IndyCar series has signed a new media rights deal with NBC Sports Group. The new deal is expected to dramatically increase exposure. Las Vegas native and former Indy 500 pit road reporter Jamie Little said it was a great move for the series. “Having been part of the IndyCar family, I’m thrilled to see the series land one big TV deal.”

Pet owners rejoice! A new indoor dog park in Las Vegas offers shelter from the hot sun. Adventure Dog Park opened March 1st, and is located across the street from Sunset Park. The facility offers a play area for small dogs, and a separate one for bigger dogs. At outdoor parks, owners have to worry about the possibilities of contracting the dog flu. But before guests can enter this indoor dog park, all vaccines must be up to date. The park offers a monthly membership or day pass that allows owners to come and go anytime during business hours. Adventure Dog Park is open 7 days a week, from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m.

Las Vegas’ recurring New Year’s Eve bash is back and better than ever, officials say. Specifics for the event, which occurs on the Strip and in Downtown Las Vegas, were unveiled Thursday at Fashion Show mall. For the 11th year in a row Fireworks By Grucci is orchestrating the launching of fireworks across seven hotel-casino rooftops stretching from the Stratosphere to the MGM Grand. Beginning at midnight, pyrotechnics will light up the Las Vegas skyline for eight minutes. The explosions will be choreographed to songs by artists including Eric Clapton, Judas Priest and Bruce Springsteen.

Las Vegas woman goes from homeless to White House fellow

At age 17, Cristina Hernandez found herself homeless in Las Vegas. At age 33, she has hit the sweet spot in Washington, landing a coveted White House fellowship.
Hernandez received her B.A. from UNLV in 2010 and had begun work as a contractor who trained military personnel at Nellis Air Force Base. Her fellowship project put Hernandez in the Office of Personnel Management, where she is working to advance an executive order signed by President Donald Trump to “create a lean, accountable, more efficient government that works for the American people.”

Man accused of stabbing daughter to death, attempting to kill son, wife, and self

Marcus Maddox, 30, is accused of fatally stabbing his 12-year-old daughter and leaving his 15-year-old son for dead. Authorities say he then drove across the valley and attempted to kill his wife and himself. An officer climbed through a window and found Tishia Maddox face down on a bed at Siegel Suites on East Craig Road. She had a severe wound to her forehead. When police arrived, they found Marcus Maddox with a gunshot wound to his head. Officials found the couple’s children in a Budget Suites room more than 17 hours later. Marcus and Tishia Maddox and their son remain in critical condition at University Medical Center.
