Veterans Find Comfort in Crafting

Patriot Place Apartments, an affordable housing facility that gives preference to veterans, started moving people in in August. The apartment buildings have 41, one-bedroom and 9 two-bedrooms and provide rental assistance or subsidized rent to residents based on their income. Thirteen apartments were fully furnished and set-aside specifically for low-income veterans with a disability and who are facing the challenges of homelessness. Seven Magic Mountains may stay longer in Nevada desert

The Seven Magic Mountains may stay longer in the Nevada desert. The painted rock totems — located south of Las Vegas off Interstate 15 — opened in May 2016 for an announced two-year run. “Due to the incredible success of the installation since its opening, artist Ugo Rondinone has expressed a strong desire to explore ways to keep the artwork on view at its current site,” according to a statement issued by Reno’s Nevada Museum of Art. “At the end of this year is 100-percent certain,” according to museum spokeswoman Amanda Horn, who added that “we’re working on a longer-term plan” at the location.

One week after the Oct. 1 mass shooting in Las Vegas, the Strip went dark for 11 minutes in honor of the victims. One of the victims, Brennan Stewart, recorded this song, “You Should Be Here,” before he died. This song was shared by the family and with permission of the writers, Cole Swindell and Ashley Gorley.
