School gardens to grow in CCSD

The Clark County School District has received $230,000 for 28 schools to build or expand gardens. The money is part of a total $410,000 approved for schools statewide through a bill passed in 2017. Woolley Elementary teacher Tony Bailey hopes to use the school’s $9,900 to build more garden beds.

Khabib Nurmagomedov-Tony Ferguson fight to headline UFC 223

UFC lightweight stars Khabib Nurmagomedov and Tony Ferguson again have been booked to fight. The bout will headline UFC 223 on April 7 at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. UFC officials will formally announce the event at a Friday news conference in Boston. UFC president Dana White discussed the bout during a radio appearance Wednesday in Boston, saying he expected the fight to be in April. Ferguson holds the interim belt, and Nurmagomedov is the unquestioned top contender, but Conor McGregor still has the title in the division. White has said McGregor, who last fought in the UFC in November 2016, could be stripped of the title if he doesn’t fight again soon. The UFC 223 bout will mark the fourth time Ferguson and Nurmagomedov have been scheduled to fight. Ferguson won the interim title with a submission of Kevin Lee in December, his 10th straight victory. Nurmagomedov is 25-0 overall, 9-0 in the UFC.

Dogs have taken over Las Vegas Strip hotels The Venetian and Palazzo debuted a “Year of the Dog” display on Jan. 12 At the center of the display in the Waterfall Atrium is a 16-foot tall Chinese Shar-Pei, named Vincenzo Li. The Chinese Shar-Pei symbolizes good fortune and protection. There are 9 other Shar-Peis throughout the resort, and a 3-foot tall bunny hidden near the main dog. *quote* The display can be seen through early March.

Coroner releases Las Vegas shooter’s cremated remains

The Clark County Coroner’s office has released the cremated remains of Las Vegas Strip shooter Stephen Paddock. His brother, Eric Paddock, was unable to get the coroner’s office to deliver the remains to his home in Orlando, Florida. Eric Paddock flew to Las Vegas to meet with Coroner John Fudenberg. Fudenberg has not yet released an autopsy report to the family. Paddock said he plans to put the ashes in a bank’s safe deposit box.

High school student indicted in rapes of classmates

A Las Vegas high school student has been indicted in the rapes of at least four classmates. Maysen Melton, 16, now attends Palo Verde High School. He attended Shadow Ridge High School at the time. Some of the charges involve attacks on school grounds. Melton reportedly knew each of the victims, whose ages ranged from 15 to 18. He also faces first-degree kidnapping charges. He faces the possibility of life in prison if convicted.

Three performers at last year’s Route 91 Harvest Festival will perform a tribute at this year’s Grammy Awards to honor the 58 people who were killed and the more than 500 who were wounded.
Eric Church, Maren Morris and Brothers Osborne will collaborate on a special performance at the 60th annual Grammy Awards on Jan. 28.
“There’s not a day that goes by since that day that I have not thought of it and thought of the people and the victims,” Church said.
The country artists will perform a classic Grammy-winning song, which hasn’t been announced.

Many Pomeranians found their fur-ever homes for the holidays The Animal Foundation and the Vegas Golden Knights hosted a Pucks for Paws event, to kick-off the adoption of 164 Pomeranians found abandoned in Sandy Valley. 5 dogs were available at auction, while 10 more were available in a raffle to benefit Animal Foundation. The dogs were named by Golden Knights players and donned small Knights sweaters. The other Pomeranians will be available through an online raffle, open through Jan. 1
