Ralenkotter sought police substation funds while police investigated LVCVA

Former LVCVA boss Rossi Ralenkotter pushed for funds for a police substation expansion while police investigated his agency. He set up a meeting with Sheriff Joe Lombardo to discuss the project
after he became a target of the investigation. Experts say the meeting raises potential conflict of interest concerns for Lombardo, who won’t comment. The investigation is looking into $50,000 in missing Southwest Airlines gift cards. Ralenkotter used $17,000 in gift cards for personal travel. He repaid the money and denies wrongdoing.

Home prices rose in every ZIP code in the Las Vegas Valley in 2018 for the second year in a row, according to SalesTraq. Prices grew fastest in older, more centrally located areas. But prices were highest in the suburbs. The top three ZIP codes for price growth were 89119 (29.8%), 89146 (25%) and 89030 (24.6%). The top three ZIP codes for median sales prices were 89138 ($464,500), 89135 ($420,500) and 89052 ($370,000).

Las Vegas apartment market accelerating

Las Vegas’ apartment market has accelerated in recent years. Developers are packing the suburbs with projects, landlords are on a buying spree, and tenants are filling buildings. Rents are also rising at one of the fastest rates in the country, stretching affordability for some. The average asking rent for a Las Vegas apartment is $1,059, up more than 25 percent since early 2013, according to research firm Reis Inc. The rental market has gained speed amid strong job and population growth. And landlords, despite raising the rents, are having little trouble signing tenants.

Clark sophomore guard Frankie Collins is emerging as one of the top point guard prospects on the West Coast. He has offers from six Division I programs, including Oklahoma, Texas Christian and UNLV. Collins grew up in Sacramento and moved to Las Vegas in sixth grade. His uncle was an assistant coach for the Milwaukee Bucks, and Collins spent a few weeks as an eighth grader in Milwaukee observing how the professionals prepared. He works out multiple times a day, and is averaging 11.6 points and 4.3 assists for the Chargers.

The Las Vegas City Council approved plans for hundreds of homes on the former Great Mall of Las Vegas site in the northwest valley. The mall was proposed during the mid-2000s real estate bubble and was supposed to be at least 2 million square feet. But it was never built, and the land was lost to foreclosure during the recession. City documents now show plans for 303 houses and 491 apartments.
