The Lights FC had a difficult time preparing for Seattle Sounders FC 2. The Lights faced a three-day turnaround between games. So the team did little on-field work before its match last Saturday. Instead the starters just talked through the game plan Friday. The result: a 4-1 win against the Sounders 2. Tactically, if you noticed how we prepared for this game, you may laugh.

Authorities say troubled rapper-singer XXXtentacion has been fatally shot in Florida.
The Broward Sheriff’s Office says the 20-year-old rising star was pronounced dead Monday evening at a Fort Lauderdale-area hospital. He was shot earlier Monday outside a Deerfield Beach motorcycle dealership.

Argument turns deadly, 1 man stabbed

Las Vegas homicide detectives are investigating after a man was stabbed to death Sunday night at a strip mall on Maryland Parkway. The stabbing was called in about 11:45 p.m. Sunday and occurred at 2797 S. Maryland Parkway, near Vegas Valley Drive. Two men in their 50s got into a fight as they walked together on Maryland Parkway. One of the men stabbed the other and took off on foot. The man who was stabbed was taken to Sunrise Hospital where he died.

Lights FC technical director Jose Luis Sanchez Sola was suspended by the USL. The team said he touched a fan after its 4-0 loss to Phoenix on Wednesday. He will have to sit out eight games and will not be able to appeal the penalty. The earliest he can return to the Lights’ sideline is August 4. It was not a violent action and he asked the fan who had been heckling him to say it to him directly. Clearly that’s not acceptable. It’s not condoned. We accept the penalty.
