Las Vegas Review Journal News | Cancer deaths spur worries about decades-old school

A school in the remote town of Owyhee, Nevada, on the Shoshone-Paiute Tribes of the Duck Valley Indian Reservation on the Nevada-Idaho border, sits adjacent to hydrocarbon plumes that lie underneath the town. Current leadership believes the drinking water, that has been contaminated by the plumes, is the root cause of the cancer deaths in their community. They’re pushing for a one time spending bill that would allow them to build a new school.
