Chapman salesman reflects on 35 years in the industry

Chapman Dodge Chrysler Jeep Ram salesman Ray Long realized his passion for sales more than 35 years ago, when the auto industry was just starting to reveal its potential. Long, now recognized as an accomplished salesman, has collected several awards during his time in the business, serving the community he loves.

After coming out of the Air Force, Long spent five years managing a financial institution. After realizing that sitting behind a desk was not for him, he shifted gears and found his true passion in selling cars.

In 1979, he was named Salesman of the Year at Fletcher Jones Chevrolet after selling more than 420 units in one year.

During his car-selling career, Long also worked for luxury brands Mercedes and Lexus, where he sold 220 cars per year over a four-year period. Long reached the position of Internet director after 10 years with Lexus. He believes the car business has changed greatly in the past 35 years, although the important things have remained the same.

“Through all the changes in the auto field, I have enjoyed a solid career doing what I like to do,” Long said. “This industry has provided a strong foundation and I’ve seen both of my kids become doctors and have promising futures of their own. I could have chosen any career, but I chose to follow my passion.”

In August, Long joined the Chapman team, calling the location on Sahara Avenue and Mojave Road home. His transition to Chapman was based on his belief in the quality and reliability of the cars he sells.

Long said he feels fortunate for his career and the Las Vegas community he’s lived in for more than 40 years. He believes market share should never be as important as keeping the best possible customer service. He added that the quality of a product and the sincerity of the manufacturer must be absolute.

“We are really appreciative of Ray’s hard work and dedication,” Chapman Dodge Chrysler Jeep Ram General Manager Don Hamrick said. “His knowledge and experience in the auto sales industry and of the products we sell make him a great asset for Chapman.”
