Couple claims Elantra ‘reasonable’ on gas mileage


Brian Kosinski and Lorna Burdick headed for Planet Hyundai Sahara recently to purchase a 2014 Elantra. They had several reasons.

“We wanted a reasonably priced car with excellent appointments and a good warranty,” said Kosinski, who’s also a motorcycle enthusiast and rides a Harley Davidson trike. “I think it’s amazing the performance that Hyundai gets out of a four-cylinder engine. It really has some get-up and go.”

It was the fuel economy that really interested Burdick, who often joins Kosinski on the back of the Harley Davidson.

“The Elantra gets more than 30 miles to the gallon and that’s important to us,” she said. “It also gets great gas mileage around town and I will be doing a lot of around-town driving.”

The couple is planning several trips, including one to Albuquerque later this year.

“The interior of the car offers a lot of bells and whistles,” Burdick added. “It has Blue Tooth, Sirius XM Radio and a terrific sound system. We could not be happier.”

The couple also praised the customer service provided by the dealership.

“Our salesman Ron Youn was very helpful,” she said. “There was no pressure imposed on us at anytime. We haven’t been treated this well in many other dealerships.

In addition, Burdick praised Delivery Manager Bob Higdon and Finance Manager Hal Hussey who she said treated them like family.

“You could tell that everyone who works here sincerely believes in what they sell. It’s a wonderful product. The whole process went relatively smoothly,” she said.

Higdon, whose immense knowledge of the Hyundai product is hailed at the dealership, said the Elantra continues to prove popular with buyers.

“In 13 years of working for Planet Hyundai, I have watched the evolution of the Elantra, which is one our best-selling vehicles,” said Higdon, who has been in the car business for about 30 years. “It has so many standard amenities and new technology that sometimes it can be a little overwhelming to the new owners. The purpose of our delivery department is to make them comfortable with the workings of the great amenities that are included with the car.”

Higdon said that since the delivery department was added about two years ago, he has been a part of delivering thousands of new vehicles.

Each new Hyundai comes with a warranty that includes a 10-year, 100,000-mile power train coverage along with a five-year, 60,000-mile bumper-to-bumper warranty.
