Findlay Kia sponsors Gown Town

Gown Town, a 98.5 KLUC-FM radio station promotion that enables hundreds of valley teens and young women the opportunity to purchase formal, prom, wedding and bridesmaid dresses for only $20, is entering its third year with help from Findlay Kia.

Gown Town will culminate a month-long promotion Saturday in Grand Ballroom B of the South Point hotel-casino from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. (Hours may be extended based on demand.) The partnership of Findlay Kia and 98.5 KLUC has created a record year that will make special events possible for many.

Findlay Kia General Manager Byron Klemaske immediately jumped on board to sponsor the event.

"People need to look for the best possible deal nowadays, especially considering the state of our economy," said Klemaske. "Gown Town and Kia both represent smart buys at a time when all of us need to be smarter with our money."

KLUC listeners have been encouraged to donate formal dresses to any Al Phillips the Cleaner. More than 1,000 dresses have been donated to the cause.

With help from Al Phillips the Cleaner President Stephen Maillox, Al Phillips the Cleaner outlets dry clean each dress and add any needed seamstress work before delivering them to the South Point. The gown shopping event Saturday will offer various sizes and designs for girls and young women attending the event.

The brainchild of KLUC afternoon disc jockey J.B. King, Gown Town was started in 2007 to lessen the cost of attending formal events. Ten prom-related vendors will be on site to help attendees shopping for gowns.

Among the vendors that will attend include Euphoria Institute, 24/7 Limousines, Top Model Talent, Eyebrows Are Us, T-Mobile, Findlay Kia and the Art Institute of Las Vegas.

All proceeds from the event will be donated to HELP of Southern Nevada, which helps the needy throughout the year.

"Without Byron and Findlay Kia's support, KLUC would not be able to pull off this event," explained Mark Grenier, a senior account executive with CBS Radio. "Byron did not hesitate a bit when we brought the package to him.

"For instance, many young girls who want to attend a prom this year would not be able to do so because of budgetary reasons. Thanks to Gown Town at the South Point, students are given a chance to participate in an event which they will remember for the rest of their lives. Many mothers and their daughters attend Gown Town together. Gown Town is one-stop shopping. It is a great bonding experience."
